![]() He says: “I don't care if you're a girl teddy or a boy teddy! What matters is that you are my friend.” And then they just keep playing and hanging out. Now, I didn’t really think that Tilly’s friend, Errol, would turn around and be horrible to Tilly, but it was absolutely gorgeous to see him just completely accept Tilly as she is. Tilly is a transgender teddy bear, and the way that this presented is so incredibly lovely. Not only is Introducing Teddy LGBTQIA+ kid lit, which is important in and of itself, but it’s trans kid lit. And, hopefully, people will give it the love it deserves so that publishers know how important it is to have LGBTQIA+ books in all genres. So to see Introducing Teddy being published makes me incredibly happy. I am an advocate for LGBTQIA+ lit in YA (as most of you probably know), but I also know that there is a need for LGBTQIA+ middle grade lit, and also kid lit. ![]() I also think that everyone should read it, so here I have a nifty list just for you, detailing all the reasons why Introducing Teddy should be on your TBR. ![]() Introducing Teddy was, in one word: gorgeous. A copy of this novel was provided by Bloomsbury Australia & Allen and Unwin for review. ![]() ![]() What is not generally known to the casual Dostoevsky fan (which is what I would call myself I certainly could not hold forth with Michael at Pink's for any length of time*) is the details of why and how this pivotal event came to happen. I might say it's as impossible not to know Dostoevsky was sent to Siberia as it is not to know that he wrote The Brothers Karamozov and Crime and Punishment, but then I run the risk of wandering into bless-me-what-do-they-teach-at-these-schools-ism. This should not be a spoiler for anyone this fact and its timing (1849) are quite possibly the best-known and most-talked-about biographical detail in all Dostoevskiana, mentioned in every introduction, foreword, sketch and essay I've ever seen about the man. ![]() ![]() Though the event is not actually depicted or described in Seeds of Revolt, the specter of Russian uber-novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky's arrest, mock execution and sentence to Siberia looms large over this first of Joseph Frank's five-volume biography of the man. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Julie kagawa talon saga![]() ![]() Ramsey's dark head bobbed in affirmation. "Joseph and Kate Hill were killed in a car accident when we were seven years old," I recited, seeing the driver's impassive gaze watching me from the rearview mirror. I sighed and settled back against the cold leather. "Ember? Did you hear me? Answer the question, please." Just beyond the pavement, past a strip of glistening white sand, the Pacific Ocean shimmered like a huge turquoise jewel, teasing me with its frothy waves and countless beachgoers splashing freely in the glittering water. ![]() Outside the glass, palm trees lined the road, and charming villas shared the sidewalk with weathered gray shacks advertising food, T-shirts, surfboard wax and more. We'd been stuck in the car for hours, and I was itching to get out of this moving prison and into the sun. The air in the black sedan was cold and stale and, annoyingly, the driver had engaged the child safety locks so I couldn't roll down the window. I stifled a groan and tore my gaze from the car window, where the bright, sunny town of Crescent Beach shimmered beyond the tinted glass. "Ember, when did your parents die, and what was the cause of death?" ![]() ![]() Lamar Perry (Co-Host) (he/him/his) is a Queer Black director, producer, and writer originally from Connecticut. Ultimately the podcast hopes to ask the question: how can we expand the canon and create access for all? Listeners will walk away from Cocktails with the Canon feeling like they’ve just left a night at the theatre and a gathering with their community over drinks and food. The hosts and guests will also dive into personal stories and share their dreams and action plans for the future of the American theatre. Over the course of the season, they will welcome to the podcast an acclaimed group of American playwrights to reflect on the forces that have historically shaped-and continue to shape-the American theatrical canon, and to discuss the works they consider canonical within their own communities. Through a series of informal but hard-hitting conversations, Amato and Perry will take audiences on a journey that investigates the “traditional” Western dramatic canon, along with the writers, groups, identities, and aesthetics that have historically been excluded. ![]() ![]() The Old Globe and University of San Diego Shiley Graduate Theatre ProgramĬocktails with the Canon is an interview-based podcast series hosted by colleagues and friends, the Globe’s Literary Manager and Dramaturg Danielle Mages Amato and Artistic Associate Lamar Perry.Community Group Readings and Performances. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Ink by Sabrina Vourvoulias![]() ![]() The main characters grapple with ever-changing definitions of power, home and community relationships that expand and complicate their lives personal magicks they don’t fully understand and perceptions of “otherness” based on ethnicity, language, class and inclusion. ![]() during a 10-year span, the novel is told in four voices: a journalist an ink who works in a local population control office an artist strongly tied to a specific piece of land and a teenager whose mother runs an inkatorium (a sanitarium-internment center opened in response to public health concerns about inks). ![]() Set in a fictional city and small, rural town in the U.S. What happens when rhetoric about immigrants escalates to an institutionalized population control system? Therefore when one person gets excepted thousands of others lose or do not. Tens of thousands of people will apply and only a few will be excepted. This is easiest to understand when you look at Ivy League schools and universities. Except in our society we actually work on a negative some structure which means very few people are given the opportunities and therefore many lose!!! If you’re not familiar with what that is, it means a merit based structure in which there is zero-sum situation or one person wins and one person loses. The book discusses the fact that much of our society and our economic structure is designed on a meritocracy. The focus of this book is achieving success through the pursuit of fulfillment. Well my most recent book Dark Horse by Todd Rose and Ogi Ogas was exactly what I was looking for. And I do my best to find books that have new information, new ideas, and are Innovative in their approach to knowledge. ![]() 5/23/2023 0 Comments Road Trip by Gary Paulsen![]() ![]() ![]() "I hate to admit that this is my first Gary Paulsen book.
